County cricket returns to S&B

Lancashire's LV= County Championship Division 2 game against Derbyshire on May 24-27 will be played at the County Cricket Ground, Southport, the home of Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club.

Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club has a proud history of staging First Class cricket, with some of the games' greatest names treading the Trafalgar Road turf between 1959 and 1999 - Viv Richards, Wasim Akram, Barry Richards, Muttiah Muralitheran and 'Freddy' Flintoff, to name but a few. However, a dozen years elapsed before Lancashire returned, in 2011, to take on Nottinghamshire, with record crowds enjoying the July sun during the Red Rose County's Championship Summer.

Next year's opponents, Derbyshire, have played at Southport three times before, in 1965, 1968 and 1974, when Frank Hayes scored a memorable century.

This is a tremendous coup for the Club and we look forward to welcoming friends old and new over the course of the 4 days. There will be a number of hospitality packages on offer, or you can just turn up and enjoy the cricket.
