Hockey End of Season Report

The Hockey Season has come to an end, and on the whole it has been a successful season. The Men’s first team finished mid-table and for the first time in years have not been fighting relegation in the second half of the season. With a stronger finish they could have ended up much closer to the top of the league.

The Men’s second team won promotion with a fine display throughout the season finishing up with the best defence in the league as well as the division’s top scorer.

The Men’s third team have competed well and used a great number of players to try and keep everyone happy following the loss of the 4th team at the beginning of the year but ended up in a respectable position in the top half of the table.

The Ladies teams have both had a tough year with the loss of 12 players to university or jobs. The first team have however performed remarkably well surpassing their points total for last season with four matches remaining and again not fighting relegation.

The Ladies 2nd team unfortunately were relegated but with an average age of 15 and with only one regular player over the age of 20 they have learned a lot and have improved immensely over the course of the season. We are very proud of the girls who have played for the second team this year as although they were getting beaten every week their attitude was remarkable and their work rate exceptional, going out every game determined to try and win. They have been a credit to the Hockey Section and the club as a whole.

The Junior teams have both played a good number of games and have performed well this year and we are hopeful for the future. In relation to juniors we have had two young players, Nick Hale & Carlos Hollyman on England training sessions over the past week and this is excellent for a club of our size to get two players through to this level.
